Sometimes things are not what they seem.
I watched TV the other night and noticed the excessive number of commercials that advertise something for nothing. The “but wait, there’s more,” words just when you think the 30 second ad is over, or the “try it for 30 days and if you aren’t completely satisfied…” gimmick is finished, you find yourself easily seduce into believing you can get something for nothing.
But then, you look closer. The shipping and handling fees are outrageous and if you don’t cancel or return the product within thirty days, you better prepare to pay the price.
You see, sometimes things are not what they seem.
Our world is using measuring sticks that make good things seem right. But as Christians, our measuring stick should be the infallible word of God. Just because something seems good to the ears, doesn’t mean it is good for the soul. Christians need to wake up and believe what God’s Word tells us:
Dishonest scales (measurements) are detestable to the Lord, but an accurate weight is His delight. Proverbs 11:1
Are we measuring what we hear and see on the news, on the internet, in our children’s schoolwork, or in magazines using the scales of righteousness and holiness? The world will tickle our ears with things that seem too good to be true. Friend, know that only the best things in this life and beyond are wrapped up in the beauty and holiness of God and his word. His standard is excellence. His scale is always accurate. Believe it. Trust it. Claim it. Live it.
