Welcome our award winning author for Best Worship & Prayer Devotion featured in Wit, Whimsy and Wisdom—Mindy Cantrell. She will bless your heart with her encouraging words featured in several devotions found in Wit, Whimsy and Wisdom.
I first met Mindy in person at a writer's Master Class a few years ago, with WordGirls founder, Kathy Carlton Willis. Mindy's heart for sharing her story with others was obvious as she communicated her life journey that day. Her desire to help women navigate the spiritual waters of life is evident in her written and spoken word.

Tell us a little about yourself:
Well, I live out in the boonies, north of Dallas Tx, with my husband and spoiled-rotten cat, Ramjet, who we adopted in the Marshall Islands, where we lived for 7 years. Yes, it was a tiny little tropical island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. More beautiful than we ever imagined! We have a grown daughter, who is a clinical social worker for a North Carolina VA Hospital, where her husband is a police officer. They have my sweet granddaughter, Maddux-Grace, about to be 11. I have been writing women’s devotionals since about 2004, when I led a ladies “praisercise” exercise class in my church. In my very little free time, I love to experiment with baking low carb/sugar free sweet treats.
What do you love most about writing?
When I’m writing, I picture my reader laughing, smiling, crying even, and feeling God giving them a hug and telling them that everything is going to be ok. I love most being able to share the beautiful, healing, love and grace of our Heavenly Father, through my words, to every woman out there who needs a little pick-me-up.
In Wit, Whimsy and Wisdom, over 20 writers came together to share in this collaborative effort. How did you get connected with the WordGirls?
I met Kathy Carlton Willis on Facebook several years ago through a mutual friend. I felt an immediate connection with her and followed her on social media. When she posted about a WordGirls Facebook party, I attended and loved what I heard, and the close fellowship the WordGirls seemed to have. So I joined WordGirls two years ago and have been loving them ever since.
Briefly describe your contributions to the Wit, Whimsy and Wisdom devotional book.
Wow, I can’t believe I am actually a published author! This is so exciting! I have 4 devotions in Wit, Whimsy and Wisdom.
The first one, Delight of My Heart, is an emotional worship writing about taking in God’s sustaining, comforting, healing words, allowing them to become the absolute delight of my heart.
The second, God-Beauty, is a humorous story of an embarrassing shopping trip I had.
The third, Perspective, is the relaying of my heartbreak over COVID-19 repercussions, and how God sent an unlikely messenger to cheer me.
The fourth, Thank God for Chocolate Cake, is all about chocolate and God, and how to make the perfect “soothes my soul and all that ails it” recipe. People who know me well, seem to think I’m pretty emotional – go figure! So, I think this probably comes over some in my writing.
What’s next for you?
I am currently working on writing a Bible Study with journal that has been on my heart for many years. I had to overcome a lot growing up, and in this Bible Study, I share the tools I learned over the years, to overcome the heartbreak and scars left from my painful experiences. I know there are so many sweet and wonderful women out there that just need a little help and courage to overcome theirs and to be free and whole again. I want to help them. I am also working on the design for a very special, daily, devotional planner, which I hope to have done in time for 2022! I am so very excited about both these projects!
